Darren began training in Muay Thai in 1983 with Master Sken and Sandy Holt. He quickly completed the Sitnarong grading system and competed against some of the best fighters in the country at the time.

While teaching for Sandy in Bolton, Darren opened Heywood Thai Boxing Club in 1983. In 1986, he established what would become GFC Muay Thai.

His study of Muay Thai scoring brought home to him the importance of strong fundamentals and a traditional Thai approach to training, reinforced by his many trips to Thailand. Darren also spent time as a professional boxing coach and has worked with numerous world, European and British champions. In 2023, Grand Master Sken granted Darren the title of Master.
