Changing & Enriching People’s Lives
Junior Roadtrip 2008
Changing and Enriching Peoples Lives   GFC are a force to be reckoned with in the Muay Thai world and the club’s pedigree dates back to 1983 when Darren Phillips started training with Sandy Holt and Master Sken. Darren went on to teach for Sandy and one was one of his main instructors through this golden period.  Darren started the Heywood Thai boxing Club in 1994, renting a room in Heywood and then three years later moved to a full Time gym in Bury.  “When I left Sitnarong around about 2000 I changed the name to GFC.  Not many people know what this means, but it’s basically a Mickey-take of me!”
GFC: Road Trip 2008     GFC Junior Road Trip   On the 11th August 6 GFC Juniors travelled down to Crawley to compete on John Jarvis’s show.  Setting of at 9.30 in the morning, the team faced a 250 mile journey to get to the fights.  Things were going great until we hit the M25 and traffic, no wonder the M25 is known as the world’s largest car park! The team ready to set off in the morning (apart from Zac who went down the night before) Arriving a little late, the team weighed, all making the desired weight for their fights.

MMA

As from Monday the 6th February we will be running two MMA classes during the week. Baz White, will be moving his Hurt Locker class to GFC and together with British Budo Welterweight Champion, Brad Wilde will be teaching MMA on a Monday and Thursday night at 8.00 O’clock. The classes will be open to anyone, but anyone paying by standing order will have to pay an extra £2.50 for the MMA classes.
This means there will now be only one Thai Class on a Thursday night, 6.30 to 7.30, with an option to spar afterwards for those wanting to. With the recent addition of Kat’s Wednesday night Thai class, 7.15 to 8.15, we aren’t actually losing any Thai classes.

Interclubs

Our first interclub will be Sunday 29th January at Saphire gym in Liverpool. The Next one will be at our gym on 11th February. We will look to increase the number of interclubs we attend this year and hopefully will have some juniors doing decision bouts pretty soon.

Fights

Kat will be fighting on Johnny T’s show in Radcliffe on the 26th Feb. Her opponent will be a former Irish Kickboxing champion, so no easy fight for Kat. Hopefully we can take a bucket load of support down to watch her.
After that we have the Main Event at Event City near the Trafford Centre on 31st March. Andy Thrasher will be fighting Tim Thomas in a winner takes all multiple world title event. The fight card is packed with top class action and will be one of the best shows ever put on in this country. Don’t miss out!

Private Lessons

Don’t forget most of your instructors are available for Private Lessons. If you can’t make the classes, want to work on something specific or just fancy a more intense personal session, private lessons are a great way to fast track your skills.

Gym Cleaning

Cleaning was never my strong point as I become busier I am finding it very difficult to keep on top of things. I am looking for a volunteer to help me with the cleaning in return for either free training, private lessons or training for their kid(s). This would mean general cleaning duties, but at least sweeping the mat and rings twice a week sweeping everywhere else and mopping the mat once a week, emptying the bins and general tidying. If you are interested then please speak to me.

General fitness

My privates in particular, as well as some of the classes are turning towards general fitness and weight loss as much as Thai Boxing, as this seems to be what the majority of people are looking for. I have lots of new ideas and equipment so please check us out if you are looking for a “new you” in 2012.
